Live bus data is running normally

Getting started

Is BusLine free?

Yes. Live departures, journey planning, tracking and stop announcements are all free. There are no ads and no subscriptions.

Do I need an account?

No. BusLine works straight away with no sign-up. Your favourite stops and recent trips are saved on your own device.

Which areas does BusLine cover?

Buses across England, Scotland and Wales, using open data from bustimes.org and UK bus operators. Live times and disruptions are most detailed around Stirling, Falkirk and Central Scotland.

Where does the bus data come from?

Live departure times, timetables and bus positions come from bustimes.org (open data under the Open Government Licence), and disruption notices from the bus operators' own websites.

How do I contact BusLine?

Call free on 0800 342 3725, or email support@buslineuk.com. You can also use the contact options at the bottom of this Support page.

Live tracking

Why does my bus say it's estimated?

Some operators don't share live GPS for every bus. When there's no GPS, BusLine places the bus on the route using its live or timetabled times, and labels it as estimated so you know it isn't live GPS.

The bus on the map is behind where it really is

Estimated positions and GPS fixes can run a little behind, especially in poor signal. When your stop is close, BusLine shows a reminder to keep an eye out, so look up and press the bell in good time rather than waiting for the app.

Why does it say tracking isn't available yet?

Tracking opens 1 hour before your bus is due at your stop. Until then it usually hasn't started its route. The screen switches over by itself when tracking opens.

How often do times update?

Live positions refresh about every 15 to 20 seconds, and departure times every time you open or pull down a stop.

Stop announcements

I didn't hear the stop announcement

On iPhone, check that Stop announcements is on in the Account tab and that the speaker button on the tracker isn't muted, then turn your volume up. On the website, tap the speaker button on the tracker first, because browsers only play sound after you tap.

How do I change the voice?

In the iPhone app, go to Settings › Voice. Choose one of the BusLine voices, or any Apple voice installed on your phone. Tap the play button to hear a sample.

Does the voice need internet?

The BusLine voices are streamed the first time a phrase is spoken, then kept on your phone. If you lose signal, BusLine switches to your iPhone's built-in voice so you still hear your stop.

When does BusLine speak?

When your bus is 2 stops from you, when it arrives, 3 and 2 stops before your stop, at the stop before yours and when it's time to get off. You can also turn on "Announce every stop".

iPhone app

Where do I download the iPhone app?

BusLine is free on the App Store. Search for BusLine, or open apps.apple.com/gb/app/busline/id6819068555 on your iPhone.

How do I put my bus on the Lock Screen?

Start tracking a bus and BusLine adds a Live Activity to your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. If it doesn't appear, go to Settings › BusLine and turn on Live Activities.

How do I add a widget?

Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, search for BusLine and choose a size. The widget shows buses from the stop nearest you.

Notifications don't arrive when my phone is locked

Go to Settings › BusLine › Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications and Time Sensitive Notifications. If you use a Focus, add BusLine to its allowed apps.

Planning a journey

How do I plan a journey?

Tap Where to?, choose where you're going, and BusLine shows the quickest buses from where you are, including any change and the walk at each end.

Can I walk less?

Yes. In the iPhone app, go to Settings › Walking distance and pick the longest walk you're happy with at each end.

Can I track my second bus on a journey with a change?

Yes. The tracker shows a You need to change card. Tap Then track the bus to follow your next bus.

Privacy and data

What does BusLine do with my location?

Your location is only used, while you use the app, to find stops and buses near you. It isn't linked to you, sold or used for advertising.

How do I delete my data?

Everything BusLine keeps is on your device. Use Settings › Clear past trips, or delete the app to remove it all.
