Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about BusLine.
Is BusLine free?
Yes. Planning journeys, live departures and live tracking are all free, with no account needed.
Which buses can I track?
Buses across England, Scotland and Wales. Where an operator shares live GPS you'll see the bus move on the map; otherwise BusLine shows the timetabled position and tells you it's estimated.
Why does it say tracking isn't available yet?
Tracking opens 1 hour before your bus is due at your stop. Until then the bus usually hasn't started its route, so there's nothing live to show. The page switches over by itself when tracking opens.
How often do live times update?
Every 15 seconds on the map, and the tracker refreshes as soon as new positions arrive from the operator.
Does BusLine work at night?
Yes. After sunset the map and the whole app switch to a dark theme automatically, so it's easy on your eyes at the bus stop.
Where does the data come from?
Timetables and live positions come from bustimes.org, which collects open data published by UK bus operators and the Bus Open Data Service.
